Who else wanted to bitch-slap Mauricio?

Seriously, what an ass|hole. Not only was he an obnoxious, annoying douche, but he was unfunny as well. Worst character in any comedy movie ever. What an ignorant MFer!

I was obviously born on the highway where most accidents happen.

Yeah, he's a total loser. He has the nerve to call women "hippos," "giraffes," etc., for not being "attractive enough" and dump them for the stupidest reasons (he dumps Lindy because of her toe?!! Seriously!) but never even stops to consider that he's the problem.

reply

And he's pretty unattractive himself to boot

reply

He was just an @$$ho!e. I agree he wasn't funny at all. Jason Alexander plays those roles well. I can't think of a time he played a nice guy.

reply

He played a caring dad in Dunstan Checks in but that may be an exception.

Yeah I hate that jerk, he has that insecure holier than thou attitude and is no model himself!

reply

Yeah.

He was disgusting. I get the feeling that once we discover the "tail" we are supposed to develop some sympathy towards the character and forgive some of his awful behavior because he was clearly masking a massive, deep-rooted insecurity, understandably so, and using his attitude towards women as a defense mechanism to protect himself from getting judged and hurt. The problem is that Jason Alexander comes off as being SO horrible and unlikable that there is nothing we can possibly learn about Mauricio that would make him a sympathetic figure. And if that's the case then Alexander failed in playing that part.

I have always found Jason Alexander to be flat out repulsive no matter what movie or show he is in. There is something inherently creepy and gross about him (roles like this and his role in Pretty Woman, unfortunately, seem to suit him VERY well). Perhaps in real life he is a sweet and lovely person--if so then he is a phenomenal actor.

From what I remember it was originally supposed to be Gary Shandling in the role of Mauricio but it didn't pan out and they got Alexander instead. I don't remember where I heard that as it was 15 years ago but I wonder how different the Mauricio character might have been if Shandling had played him. Shandling doesn't have the creeper vibe like Alexander does and maybe we could have at least forgiven some of Mauricio's bad behavior if he were a seemingly more decent guy in general.

"Why couldn't the monkey arrange this from INSIDE the garbage can?"

I wanted to slap him right in that stupid, black, spray-painted-looking fabric piece he had on! That douche bag couldn't afford to be shallow, neither could a Hal. They were both highly unattractive, but Mauricio even more! What a short, repulsive weasel!
