That everyone talks about how bad Jody is when Yvette: A) Accepts collect calls from her ex who is incarcerated B) Let's the same ex stays at her house when he gets out C) Let's him bring his thug buddies into the house to drink and smoke in front of her son D) Leaves her son alone with them knowing the heat between Rodney and Jody E) She hits Jody at least 15 times before he reacted and caught her in the face, and remember he tried to leave earlier and she wouldn't let him.
So yes , he was bad but she did questionable things herself.
How did he force her to accept his calls from jail. The hitting part I'm done with because they were both very wrong. She left her and Jody's son home alone with Rodney knowing what kind of beef he had with Jody and didn't so much as tell Jody he was there. You could say Jody put Yvette's life in danger by cheating but I could say she put his life in danger by not telling him Rodney was at the house and having him come over unprepared for what could have happened when they met face to face.
well, that was stupid on her part to have rodney babysit jojo. but what makes ppl (mostly females) upset with jody's character, is he cheated & lied to her. he keeps another woman's baby & has her to get an abortion. the acceptions of the collect calls was to get jody's attention. he left her alone quite a bit & she needed someone to talk to. she didn't cheat. she stuck by jody in all his foolishness. what got me irritated with yvette's character was, she should have just left him alone,& if she wanted to keep that baby-she should have. or made precautions to prevent an unwanted pregnancy.
````````````````````````````` THERE IS NO BETTER LOVE!
Points well taken, and you're right, she should have left him alone because during one arguement she said she knew he was cheating so that's on her. And about the collect calls, if it was to get his attention she would have let him know she was doing it, but he found out by answering the phone when she tried to get to it first, and what about her reaction when she heard that it was Rodney, and a side note about the calls, she had Jody pay for them without telling him what the extra $$$ was for.
Lastly, she didn't really try to get Rodney out until he tried to rape her.
Yvette said Rodney was lonely and just wanted someone to talk to. That's called compassion, granted it is foolish, but Yvette is a pretty forgiving person. (as shown in the movie), she was just talking to him to be nice(she even says so in the movie). people who have even a little compassion will often times look at things from another person's point of view and i'm assuming that's what she did in regards to rodney. she probably figured he had no one else to talk to and obviously shared the same aspect as jody constantly took her car and left her alone in the apartment a lot. just try to think how you would feel being locked up and with not many people talk to given your phone calls are limited. not saying rodney is an angel, but i can her understand her just talking to him on the phone. however i agree with you about her not doing anything when he showed up at the apartment.
E) She hits Jody at least 15 times before he reacted and caught her in the face, and remember he tried to leave earlier and she wouldn't let him.
i don't justify hitting a woman in any scenario, but these are valid points. jody did try to leave, but a man should never hit a woman, after yvetter punched jody, if i were jody i would have just ran in the bathrooma nd locked the door or something. i've been in a situation like this, my gf kept hitting me, and even when i tried to walk away she run after me and kept hitting me some more. what i finally did was grab her and tell her firmly to stop hitting me.
overall i agree with you, yvette really isn't any better, and to be perfectly honest, i'm not a fan of taraji.
Running into the bathroom is fine and dandy but how long does he stay there? He didn't appear to have a cell phone so he couldn't call anyone; if Yvette kept yelling and screaming the neighbors could have called the police and since Jody didn't actually live there guess who may have took a trip downtown. The bottom line is Jody was in a no-win situation, he tried to leave but she kept jumping in front of him, and as I've said before he didn't grab her and slug her he really just took a swipe and caught her in the face. We teach boys from day one not to hit girls but we don't teach girls not to give boys a reason to take a swing at them, all we teach them is that if a boy hits them they'll go to jail.
No one is above an azz-whooping, doc. Man, Woman, dog. Whoever. Anyone lays a hand on me unprovoked, they're gonna catch one. I've done it before. And, each time, the law was on my side.
”Deh Deh Deh, DA Dabacco”-Puert Rican dude from the ”I aint your Papi” episode of COPS.
ur still blaming yvette though, yeah she should have left his ass but jody should have beeN faithful especially since she gave him chance after chance, after all he put her through jody will always remain the villian and yvette the victim/fool
If the movie had a subtitle, it would have read: Baby Boy Bad Decisions and the Black People Who Make Them
Jody and Yvette are both making bad choices throughout the movie. They don't even get a character arc, they keep making them even as the credits role.
Despite the positive allure of good role models and religion, there they are pregnant with a second (third) baby, still apparently jobless and Jody is planning a gangster life if he gets his wish for a boy.
