it seemed to me like it didn't know whether it was a comedy or a serious drama?

like when he gets his alchohol took ,this was obviously a comedic moment and especially when he gets the kids back.

i rated the film 5/10, very average, not terrible, just average, like nothing more to it than that.

5 was generous. guess it was supposed to be a little of both comedy/drama.

Yeah, i gave it a 4 because of Ving Rhames but the movie was just awful, it had some funny parts though.

It's possible that you were laughing at the film during moments it wasn't supposed to be funny, but it very obviously had many moments of intended comedy. And moments of serious drama too.
