Did anyone else think...?

that this movie was a bit slow...although there were scenes that were truly disturbing, I found myself more bored than petrified...any opinions?

reply

It is slow in places but I would hardly call it boring. Just requires more patience than usual, as thoughtful films often do.

the movie is more an observation then a "story" it kinda has the hypnotic effect that Lars von trier films have...

and i dont think it is the type of film that is made to be enjoyed.

I think Haneke's use of long shots made this piece really stunning to me, anyway. It just seems more real since that's how real life is paced - as is. Sure, it is not a short movie at all and some scenes arent exactly necessary to be so long but I think it adds more than it takes from this piece. I guess you wouldn't be a fan of Funny Games (1997 version, although both are nearly the same) to see a woman sitting next to her dead child for 10 minutes. again...I dont know. It just works for him IMO

If he's so weird, why is he wearing Nikes?

Great spoiler there, well done.

I found it fascinating the whole way through.

Isabelle is amazing in this. She makes the movie so much more than it really is. I don’t think anyone else conveys an intense emotional desire, almost a restrained passion for intensity like her. Words don't convey what is really going on. It’s just so visual what she puts across. Amazing.

To be honest, I felt like this one moved along a bit quicker than Haneke's other films. That isn't to say his other films are paced poorly, I'm just kind of surprised you'd pick this one as "slow".

reply

I thought it started a bit slow but I was hooked relatively quickly.

I think this is one of the few films that has a perfect pacing. Especially leading to the dramatic final two scenes. Perfect!
