I wonder how it could heavily disfigured Anna's hand so that she possibly wouldn't be able to play properly anymore.

I mean, grant it the shards could injure her hand when she put it in the pocket, but unless she thrusts her hand rather violently, I doubt they would cause more than flesh wounds?

You probably haven't been cut by glass before. Unwillingly thrusting your hand in glass would surely cut deep. I've done it before. I had a gash all the way to the muscle.
