WHY didnt they bring back KHAN for this? (STID SPOILERS)

what if theyd brought back Khan for Nemesis (which was TWOK in everything but name) via cloning and had him unleash hell for the federation (as he could have retained some memories from TWOK like Ripley in Alien Resurrection). They could have got some younger guy at the time like Antonio Banderus/Javier Barhem/Bencio Del Toro to portray him for the majority of the film kicking ass killing people etc (with a mystery thing for a while as to who he is before its revealed like STID), and then had Richardo Monalban in a cameo at the end as he ages up due to the cloning going wrong/accelerating him. Nimoy couldve even had a cameo too like in STID only hed be talking to Picard not nuSpock. maybe even got N Meyer to direct, or Frakes if not.

Cloning was the central element in Nemesis, as well as being central to Alien Resurrection in 97 and SW Ep II in 02, and went on to be used in the Augment 'Enterprise' 3 parter. it was a big deal in the late 90s/early so im surprised they never thought seriously about bringing back Treks most popular villain back then for a TNG film.

Plus they kept doing the khan like villain ever since TWOK so why not have just brought back the real deal back for Nemesis (as they clearly had no decent ideas after theyd done the inevitable crossover film and the borg film)

fans wouldve gone nuts to see Picard face off against Khan so itd had more of a chance of holding its own against LOTR & 007.

could have called it 'Star Trek: Vengeance' (as that was the original title for TWOK)

i guess IDW could do a Picard v Khan comic mini series (they do everything else so why not)

How about we answer your primary question:

WHY didnt [SIC] they bring back KHAN for this?

How about because he died in "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan"?

Now I pose a question to you:

What do any of those other movies have anything to do with the Star Trek canon?

He did say bring back via cloning.

Why didn't they just create an original story rather than 'pay homage' to TWoK?

reply

(as he would have retained some memories from TWOK like Ripley in Alien Resurrection)

Firstly this is flawed, memories don't get passed through DNA.
Secondly, why state it so matter of factly?

reply

Why not

Cloning was just a plot device The real central point of Nemesis was supposed to be the idea of Nature vs Nurture. Forget Khan, and forget about this Shinzon guy they pulled out of their ass. The villain in this movie should've been Mirror Universe Picard, commanding a badass, built-as-a-battleship Enterprise-D.

Of course, they'd have needed a better writer and director to pull this off.

Sigh, I hate how Khan is the quintessential bad guy to turn to for Star Trek. Can we please leave Khan alone, already? Although I did really love the new "Star Trek: Into Darkness", at the same time I hated that the main villain was Khan.

Khan should not be tampered with. He had his story with the true originals of Star Trek. He should have only been played by Ricardo Montalban and that's it. The new movie, although good, only over-saturated the Star Trek universe with Khan. And to make matters worse, the fan film made by Tim Russ "Star Trek Renegades" has Khan's "daughter" in it now as the captain of a ship. Way to go the Khan route again...

And to this post, I say, KHAN IN A TNG MOVIE IS THE DUMBEST IDEA I'VE EVER HEARD. Khan has absolutely NO place being in Captain Picard's timeline, or anywhere near it. I don't like the idea of him being cloned, having kids, or anything else. "Wrath of Khan" should have been it. The new movies, the story line is starting over again. Why not introduce us to new villains or visit some of the other bad guys from the old Trek universe? Why Khan again?

In the end, Picard had one Nemesis: Q. But I think that they were out of Q ideas post All Good Things, as his appearances in Voyager demonstrate.

So when exactly would the Romulans have had the opportunity to get a sample of Khan's DNA to clone him?

reply

easy - there would be a sample of Khans blood or DNA in some secret Starfleet research facility

e.g. film opens 40 years prior to Nemesis with some Romulan agents storming secret Area 51 SF facility. we see them grab some vile containing DNA (we don't know what) then the agents are gunned down apart from one who gets away...then flash forward 40 years to Nemesis time Picard at the wedding

reply

One answer: BECAUSE THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN MINDBLOWINGLY DUMB.

reply

Any redoing of Khan post TWOK would be mind-blowingly stupid.

Know what I'd like in a Star Trek film?

How about a story that isn't about TIME?

You know:
-time-travel
-something from a long time ago coming back
-aging
-flashbacks
-stories about the past
-people from the past
-etc.
-etc.
-etc.
-time
-TIME
-TIME!!!

"more than 300 years ago"
"in 15 years"
"old...worn out"
"aging in surges"
"Don't you remember?"
"Sure, slingshot around the Sun."
"You look like you've just seen a ghost."
"An eternity I've been imprisoned in this place!"
"Is it possible that we two, you and I, have grown so old and so inflexible that we have outlived our usefulness?"
"They say time is the fire in which we burn. Right now, Captain, my time is running out."
"Most of my people who live that fast a life, would sell their souls to slow it down."
"Who wouldn't be tempted by the promise of perpetual youth?"
"Look in the mirror, Admiral. The Federation is old."

"129 years from now a star will explode and threaten to destroy the galaxy."
"A remnant of a time long past."
"For centuries we slept"
