Dune buggies.

There are dune buggies in this Star Trek movie.

reply

Yeah, that was a dumb touch. What killed the dune buggy scene was the saturated look of the film in the buggy scenes, but not the others. This film was just not edited well, and was poorly conceive to boot.

reply

Well. Different planet. Different sun. Different look. Nothing got killed.

And?

Well I don't get it. What about there being dune buggies in this Star Trek movie?

reply

Apparently Star Trek films cannot have dune buggies? C'mon!

reply

They are completely practical in the usage case. I liked the Argo.

I enjoyed the battle scene!!!

Why would you use a wheeled vehicle when they have antigravity technology? Wouldn't it have made more sense for it to be a hover craft of some kind? Or for that matter just use the shuttle craft. Obviously they did it to save money on effects and also for the "action" of the chase scene.
It would be like using a covered wagon today instead of a truck for no practical reason.

Any filmed chase and battle in the Mojave looks pretty cool, but seeing a young James T. Kirk in Star Trek (2009), being chased by law enforcement, in his step father's Corvette, with the Beastie Boys' "Sabotage" blasting, as he is about to go off of a cliff ...looked a bit familiar.
