It's reminding me that Brent Spiner is a d--k.

I had a fairly bad (not horrible) experience with him years ago at a convention (maybe 2010). I wrote about him on a Star Trek board.
Someone else chimed in with an experience in which he saw a guy who was in line in front of him say to Spiner, in reference to this film, "I really hope that Data isn't dead-- they will bring him back, right?"
Spiner laughed in a malicious manner then said, "Who cares? He is a FICTIONAL CHARACTER. You know that, right?!"

Spiner is known for his weird sense of humor. Maybe he said it as a joke?

I'm just on my way up to Clavius.

That reminds me of Galaxy Quest, the convention scene.

Apparently, Spiner is the same way with his castmates as well. As the story goes, Marina Sirtis called up Spiner after she read the script and started crying about how Data dies in the end. Spiner said the same thing to Sirtis, "He's a FICTIONAL CHARACTER!!"

^ Uuuuugh.

I forgot to mention a somewhat similar story that a different guy chimed in with on the same board: he met a couple who did one of those "convention photo op" things with Spiner at a convention. As they were in the convention hallway they were all looking at the pictures of them with Spiner. They noticed that he was making goofy faces and gesturing in a weird way. At that exact moment Spiner himself poked his head over their shoulders and said, "You actually PAID MONEY for THAT??! HAHAHAHAHA." Then he walked away.
