2 1/2 stars Match= A .7 star IMDB rating
2 star match= A .5 star IMDB rating
1 1/2 star match= A .3 star IMDB rating
1 star match = A .2 star IMDB rating
1/2 star match = A .1 star IMDB rating
Dud= A O IMDB rating

Today we review Wrestlemania 6 the ultimate challenge from Skydome. Personally this looks like the best Wrestlemania card to date. Let's start the review.

Match 1: Rick Martel Vs Koko B Ware. Seemed like a very short match. Koko controls most of the match. Koko misses something and never recovers. Martel controls the rest of the match until he gets Koko in the boston crab for the submission at 2:49. Eh 1 star.

Match 2: Tag Team Championship Match. This would be Andre the Giants last match. Colossal connection owns most of the match. Axe makes the hot tag and Smash starts unloading on Haku. Haku does all the wrestling for his team. He tags in Andre who holds Smash while Haku goes for the superkick. Haku misses and kicks Andre. Andre gets tied up in the ropes Heenan tries to free Andre but Demolition set up Haku for their finisher and get the win at 5:24. New tag champs. Heenan chews out Andre for messing up even dropping some f bombs on camera. Heenan slaps Andre, big mistake Andre grabs Heenan and paint brushes him. Crowd loves it. Haku tries attacking Andre but gets headbutted for his troubles. Andre leaves Skydome to a standing ovation. Not a great tag match but I give it an extra star for Andre turning face. 2 stars.

Match 3: Hercules Vs Earthquake. Earthquake tries jumping Hercules but Hercules is ready. Eventually Earthquake takes over and gets the win after the quake at 3:54. Boring 1 star.

Match 4: Brutus The Barber Beefcake Vs Mr Perfect. Brutus controls the beginning. Henning takes over and starts having fun at the expense of Beefcake. Henning uses the genius's scroll and knocks Beefcake out. He could get the pin here. But decides to show him up. Comes back to haunt him as Beefcake counters into a slingshot position and sends Henning into the turnbuckle post. Henning is out and Beefcake makes an easy cover for the win at 5:30. Okay match 2 stars.

Match 5: Rowdy Roddy Piper Vs Bad News Brown. This feud started at the 1990 Royal Rumble when Piper eliminated Bad News and Brown pulled out Piper. Piper comes to ringside with half his body painted black. Not really a wrestling match. Both guys do alot of punching eye raking and choking. Piper puts on a white clover and starts decking Bad News. Piper knocks Bad News out of the ring. Both men fight to a double countout at 4:10. Nothing solved here. 1/2 star.

Match 6: Hart Foundation Vs Bolsheviks. Hart Foundation get annoyed and jump Bolsheviks. In a couple of seconds they hit the Hart Attack on Boris and Bret scores the pin in 26 seconds. Dud.

Match 7: Tito Santana Vs The Barbarian. As Tito makes his way to the ring, Jesse Ventura talks about his days as a navy seal in tiujanna, and starts talking about what he picked up at the clubs down there. Gorrilla quickly stops the conversation, so Jesse talks about how Tito could win by countout if he only got the Barbarian to eat some of his food, hehe. Tito tries wrestling but Barbarian ends it quickly with a big boot to the face. Barbarian tries an elbow off the second rope but misses. Tito gets the big guy reeling and connects with the flying forearm but Heenan puts Barbarians foot on the ropes to break the pin count. Barbarian catches Tito and clotheslines him with the top rope. Barbarian goes up top and comes off with a clothesline that knocks Santana inside out. Barbarian gets the pin at 3:34. 1 1/2 stars.

Match 8: Mixed Tag Match: Machoking Randy Savage and Sensational Queen Sherri Vs Dusty Rhodes and Saphire. Jesse complains about the total combined weight of Dusty and Saphire announced by Howard Finkle. Dusty introduces Miss Elizabeth which doesn't sit too well with Macho and Sherri. A comedy match mostly. Ventura and Gorrilla argue about how it should be men against men and women against women. Ventura is irate about Dusty manhandling Sherri midmatch. Macho comes off the top rope with the septer and bounces it off Dusty's head. Jesse adds sounds effects. But Rhodes kicks out. Elizabeth interferes and gives Sherri a push. Saphire rolls her up for the pin at 7:26. The body is disgusted with the outcome. Alright match for entertainment. 2 stars.

Match 9: The Rockers Vs Orient Express. Great tag match both teams using speed. Tanaka catches Shawn with a flying forearm shot that looks awesome, draws ooohhss from the crowd. Rockers use their double teaming to gain the upper hand. Rockers go up top for the rocker dropper. Fuji hits Marty Jannetti on the leg with his cane. Marty goes after Fuji but Sato sneaks up from behind spins Jannetti around and throws salt in his eyes. Jannetti wanders around and falls over the guardrail. Eventual countout victory for the Orient Express. 2 1/2 stars.

Match 10: Dino Bravo Vs Hacksaw Jim Duggan. During the match Ventura gets on Monsoons case for eating too many hotdogs. Duggan goes for the football tackle and Earthquake gets involved. While the ref argues with Earthquake Duggan grabs the 2x4 and smacks Bravo and makes the cover at 3:21. Crappy match 1/2 star.

Match 11: Jake The Snake Roberts Vs Ted Dibiasie. Jake stole the million dollar belt earlier in the year and now the winner of this match will become the million dollar champion. Both guys go at it quick and start punching. Jake goes for a knee lift and Dibiasie sends him flying up into the air and drop him on the back of his head. Dibiasie hits the piledriver but wastes time. Dibiasie goes for the pin but Jake gets a foot on the ropes. Jake starts firing back. Jake hit's the short clothesline. Virgil pulls Jake out of the ring and gets bodyslammed for his trouble. Dibiasie comes up from behind and puts on the million dollar dream. Put Jake runs him into the post. Virgil manages to get Dibiasie into the ring before the countout at 5:48. Dibiasie retains the million dollar title. While Dibiasie gloats in the ring. Jake comes up from behind and clotheslines both guys. Virgil takes off with the belt. Jake gets the DDT on Dibiasie and gives away the million dollar mans money to the crowd. Mary Tylor Moore gets a 100 dollars. One of the better matches on the card I say 2 stars.

Match 12: Big Bossman Vs Akeem. Former partners going at it. Bossman turned his back and refused to take a payoff from Ted Dibiasie. As Bossman makes his way to the ring. Ted Dibiasie who was still at ringside jumps the Bossman and sends him into the ringpost. Dibiasie throws him into the ring where Akeem keeps up the attack. Doesn't matter Bossman fights back and catches Akeem with the Bossman slam for the pin at 2:32. Short filler match. Feh 1/2 star.

Match 13: Rythem and Blues come down to ringside in a sweet pink Cadillac driven by Diamond Dallas Page to debut their new song. Song starts lousy but gets kinda bearable by the second verse. Bushwhackers come in and bust up the guitars to delight the crowd.

Match 14: Ravishing Rick Rude Vs Superfly Jimmy Snuka: Steve Allen joins the commentator crew and does some stale jokes, mostly taking jabs at Snuka. Snuka is sporting a hair style that looks alot like the one on Dog The Bounty Hunter. Rude misses a drop kick and lands on the back of his head. Snuka mimics Rudes taunt. Snuka does a leapfrog and catches Rude with a headbutt. Snuka goes up top and jumps over Rude and lands on his feet. Snuka slams Rude hard and goes up top but misses a flying headbutt. Rude recovers and get's a viscious Rude awakening that echoes throughout the arena and scores the pin at 3:30. I liked it personally but for being so short im only going 1 1/2 stars.

Match 15: Title For Title Match: World Champ Hulk Hogan Vs IC champ Ultimate Warrior.
The big one. Crowd goes nuts for the Warrior. I think Hogan gets a slightly higher ovation on his way to ringside. Warrior shoves Hogan back. Both lock up again and Hogan shoves Warrior back and almost knocks him down. Warrior wants a greko roman knuckle lock. Both men lock up and Warrior manages to power Hogan down. Hogan starts pushing back and puts the Warrior down to his knees. Warrior tries to fight back but halfway Hogan does a take down and goes for a pin. Warrior kicks out quick. Both men do a criss cross Hogan catches Warrior and slams him. Warrior pops up and both guys go for another criss cross. Warrior catches Hogan this time and slams him. Warrior follows up with a clothesline that knocks Hogan outside the ring. Hogan injured his knee in the fall. Warrior goes out after him and throws him back in. Warrior starts kicking Hogans leg. Hogan goes to the eyes and both men start fighting dirty. Hogan send Warrior to the corner and follows in with a clothesline. Hogan does the 10 punch. Hogan slaps on a front face lock then tries a small package (who said Hogan couldn't wrestle:)? Hogan starts whailing on Warrior in the corner.
Hogan goes back to the reverse chinlock and a Hogan chant goes up just like at mania 18. Hogan gives Warrior a belly to back suplex. Warrior starts to build momentum but both guys clothesline eachother. Warrior starts shaking the ropes. Warrior starts hitting hogan with a couple of clotheslines. Warrior send Hogan into the corners. Hogan falls down and is holding onto Warrios leg. Warrior gives him a vertical suplex but Hogan kicks out. Warrior goes to the bearhug. Hogan fights out of it, Warrior ends up running into the ref who takes a nasty hit. Warrior comes off the top rope with a double ax handle. Warrior goes for the flying shoulder tackle but Hogan sidesteps and sends him face first to the mat. Hogan makes the cover but there's no ref. Hogan tries to revive the ref but Warrior gets a belly to back suplex. Still no ref. Referee finally recovers. Hogan sends Warrior to the ropes and hits him with a back elbow that knocks him out of the ring. Warrior sends Hogan to the post. Warrior throws Hogan into the ring and gets a pretty weak looking gorilla press slam. Hogan kicks out and starts hulking up. Hogan sends Warrior to the ropes and there's the big boot. Hogan goes for the big leg but misses. Warrior follows up with the big splash and pins Hogan half a second before Hogan can kick out. The time of the fall 22:47. Ultimate Warrior wins the title. Hogan comes back into the ring with the heavyweight belt and awards it to Warrior. Crowd cheers.

Awesome match. IMHO the best match of either guys career. The wrestling of both guys, the color commentators work, Hogan awarding the title to the Warrior and the fans cheering really gave this match a great feel. If any match deserves a five star rating this one does. Maybe controversial but hell I give it 5 stars. The best in Wrestlemania history.

Overall opinion. The majority of matches felt way too short. But I guess they did that to give enough time for the main event.

Best Match: Hogan Vs Warrior
Worst Match: Hart Foundation Vs Bolsheviks

But personally I thought this was the best Wrestlemania to up until that time.
I give it 7.0 out of 10 stars. Mania 6 now ties with Mania 5 scorewise but since im a biased mark:) I wanna give this one the tiebreaker. Here are the standings.

Current Mania standings

Mania 3: 7.1
Mania 6: 7.0
Mania 5: 7.0
Mania 4: 6.8
Mania 2: 4.8
Mania 1: 4.1

The Wrestlemanias really started to get good here! Hogan/Warrior is amazing, hell I give it 5 stars too! Matches #4, 9, 11, and 15 are the best ones (15 the best), I don't like anything else really.

Kinda odd to see Beefcake score a clear pinfall over Mr. Perfect, but I love it!

reply

I hate when Mr. Perfect lost. The best pro wrestler of all time. It was a sad sad day in my house.
Oh, you mentioned the Rick Martel and Coco B Ware match. Was that the blindfold match?

I did sixty in five minutes once...

reply

No, the blindfold match was Martel vs. Jake the Snake at Mania 7 or 8.

reply

I saw one where Martel takes his off and whoops up on Coco.
