Did not want his dad at the speech because he was afraid he would walk in late while all the parents watched.
Wanting to hang out with a politician and getting his mom in trouble with the whole "Caroline" issue.
Being depressed throughout the whole movie.
SERIOUSLY, this kid was the biggest WEENIE ever! The writers totally did him wrong.

The kid was bright, intellectually curious, open minded and articulate and aware of what was going on in the world.
His embarrassment in front of classmates was understandable, given his father's track record.
Who wouldn't want a kid like Ty..???
I agree that Ty was a cool little kid, different from other ones :)
the one part that bugs me is when he cheers when the Senator was kissing his mom at the end haha
Ty manifested the insecurities of many kids today. That makes him relatable.. and LIKEABLE to a lot of people. Not universally of course (you obviously don’t like him), but it makes him very endearing.
