Oct. 22 Release Date?!?!

Is it just me or is no one going to want to watch a Christmas movie in October before Halloween has even arrived? I just watched the new trailer and I was looking forward to the movie, but I can't see myself seeing this movie in theatres in October. Personally, I think this movie would do WAY better if it were released in late November/Early December, even if there is stiffer competition.

Anyone else agree with me here?

Yeah taht is ridiculous. Why do they do this kind of stuff?! Just release it in Christmas for any chance of it going well.

I agree that it should be released in November. Dreamworks will probablt let it play FOREVER, which is OK. That way they won't get a horrible opening weekend BO.

If a production company has so little faith in it's own creation that they'd do something so bass-ackwards as release it this early, do you really think there's even the slightest chance it will be any good or do at all well no matter when it's released? It could be released on Christmas Day and be called "The Passion of the Affleck" and still do horrible numbers

Actually, what is more likely is that Dreamworks doesn't want it to compete in anyway with their other film coming out near Christmas "Lemony Snickett." While Christmans with the Kranks may have had some influence, I suspect it had to do with DW wanting to not compete with their blockbuster. DW probably believes the movie isn't very good as well. But they can't release it during the typical movie graveyard period of Jan & Feb (for those who don't know, if a studio feels a film isn't up to snuff they often release it during Jan or Feb. If the film were better they'd release it at Xmas or hold it until spring)

i know! they really should have waited.. :/

You're a hero to college students nationwide.

Yeah I would have waited atleast until mid-November when the Santa Claus parades start kicking in.
I think this movie looks great but I wouldn't see it before Halloween either.

This is a marketing ploy.

I worked for a movie theater about 10 years ago, and there has been Christmas movies released in October before. Mainly they do not want this one to compete with other stand-out movies coming. Like the Spongebob movie and the new Tim Allen one.

Also, this movie could have been viewed badly with test audiences. It wasn't what DW had expected, so they pushed up the release date and hoping it will get more money before the other big box office Christmas release movies come out.

And yes, the January-Febuary months are the graveyard months for theaters. Though sometimes with the Oscars...some movies get released around that time.

Makes about as much sense as the simpsons halloween special in november

This movie was supposed to be released LAST CHRISTMAS but Paycheck was coming out and Dreamworks and Paramount decided to not release them together. So they slated it for 2004 and then saw the market is going to be flooded so released it in October. Unique move but I dunno how good it's gonna be.
