You call Matt Damon for a dramatic role, yes, but you call Ben for the comedic stuff. That's not to say that they can't both wear the masks of comedy and drama and wear them well, but they specifically excell in those two areas, IMO. I saw Surviving Christmas and thought it was a pretty decent movie, totally not deserving of such harsh critcisms (which it may have gotten simply because some jealous, petty people may have personal problems with Affleck, or Gandolfini for that matter)

Santa70, your comments make sense. I think people dump on this movie because Ben has become a lightening rod for people's bitching. It seems that people everywhere including this site(and that's an understatement...lol) need a scapegoat and once it starts there is no end to the criticism.
I personally found the movie funny and to call it a bad movie is a bit of a stretch. But, life is so difficult and it's so easy to bitch about a simple movie that it's hopeless and the millions of sheep who'll not see it because of the bad movie reviews are the same people who follow everyone else and make their measly existence and go and bitch on the computer cause that's all they can do...lol. I for one don't follow the crowd and am better off that way.

Peace.

Why would anyone assume that the people who don't like this movie ( or Ben Affleck for that matter) need a " scapegoat" or might be dumping on this movie because Ben A. has become a "lightening rod" for people's bitching.? Huh? When did Ben ( or any celebrity for that matter ) become so important. Are people really internalizing Ben Affleck? I hope not. Actually, I don't like the movie because I don't think it is funny and neither did the 10 people who were in the show with me and wanted their money back, lol. Maybe Ben ( unlike Matt Damon who bonded with Bourne ) has just not yet found the right vehicle.Bruce Willis had this problem too but now, ( when faced with a succession of flops), he does another Die Hard.
