childhood home? {spoilers }

the father left when he was four: so how could Drew's mother afford to live in that big house on a coffee shop salary?

still, a funny movie.

reply

I don't think it was really his childhood home. I think it was what he wished and imagined for a home. He was an only child, but when he rented the Valcos, he had a brother. When Alicia came home he said he didn't have a sister and that she was ruining it by being there. So I think he, as a child, imagined a house like that, and that he had a little brother but no sister. I think it was a sad movie in that way.

then what about his name that was carved in the tree on the front lawn?

reply

It was probably his friends home.

Maybe his mom had help from her parents. You also heave to remember that it would've been cheaper then than it is now.

He was very adamant about having his grandfather with him. I suspect that when his father ran out, he and his mother moved in with his widowed grandfather.

reply

He admitted at the end that there was no Doo-dah. It was his friend's grandfather.

reply

I grew up in a house that size with my mother that my grandparents paid for when my father left so it seems plausible that he grew up there.
