Unfinished Script, what more can be said?
SPOILER WARNING, THIS RANT AND RAVE CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THE MOVIE
You would wonder how, now that there are so many struggling writers waiting to make it big and even established writers dying to showcase their next hit, that an incomplete script gets into the production phase.
It is painfully obvious that there is no continuity to this movie, that Affleck and Gandolfini are often times improvising on the spot and that sometimes the scenes drone on with no flow that it's cringeworthy.
Why was this movie ever even made?
Sure there are a few laugh out loud moments, there sure should be -- it's a comedy! But the movie was just so incredibly bad that all the actual funny parts are glossed over by the fact that the plot was going no where!
Every time you turn there is a new element added that is supposed to hype the comedy aspect but to me it just made things more jumbled and unrealistic that I couldn't wait until it was over.
Typically trite, there's fueding parents, a computer geek son, beautiful daughter the exact age of the male star and an estranged ex-girlfriend that shows up at the perfectly wrong time. And to top it all off, everything is worked out in the final scene with a simple gesture - hand holding for the parents and making out for the daughter and male lead.
There was nothing, NOTHING, that lead up to Applegate and Affleck's characters falling for each other. Painfully contrived. I could see that's where the movie was going and was waiting for the revelation, but it never came. All that followed was them fighting as if they'd been dating for, well, dating at all. And then they make-up and make-out. Not even funny, just ridiculous.
I don't know. there's more I hated about this movie, mostly just the fact that the script wasn't even finished and they went ahead with production.
