horrible movie!
I was expecting this movie in the cable for along time. Totally depressing.
shareI agree - just dreadful.

Good movie
shareIt's really not such a terrible movie, I watched it last night and I thought Affleck was kind of likeable in it...it's just a light hearted bit of fun. There are thousands of worse movies.
As for a campaign to stop Ben Affleck, what the hell? Why do people not like the guy? OK he's made a few dodgy movies lately but he's a very talented actor, writer and director - give him a break!
Actually I take back the first paragraph, I watched this again with a friend and on the second go round it was horrible, I can't have been paying attention properly the first time!
Ppl are always saying Gigli was bad I think this was worst then Gigli.
shareI loved this movie. It was simple, and had a happy ending! Just because it's not violent and full of sex everyone dislikes it. If you really, really watch Ben Affleck, he is sooo funny. Humor is the most difficult acting to portray.
I'm watching it for the second time today!
Ben Affleck is playing the 'idea' of the character. If you "really, really watch Ben Affleck", you can actually see him following along with the script in his head. No embodying of the character or anything, he's just playing the stage direction. No choices. Bad performance.
It's why Ben Afflecks' movies are straight to cable these days.
But to be fair, I thought James Gandolfini was great!
This movie was so depressing. Not funny at all.
shareAbsolutely! Not one part of this film was believable, it may have read well or looked OK in a script but it's really lame and predictable, and I didn't even smile at it once let alone raise a giggle. I can only think the actors were in it purely for the money because it sure as hell wasn't going to do their careers much good? Gets 2/10 in my book 3 if I was being generous.
shareThis was a really good film!!!!!
shareIt's not that bad. Just a standard romantic comedy, there are dozens of much more horrible comedies like 'New in town' or smth.
shareAnother Ben Crapleck dud. Voted this garbage holiday-for-morons film a 1.

Beyond depressing. Just bad.
Agreed.
Does it work as a Christmas/holiday movie: Not at all
Does it work as a dark comedy within a holiday setting: Not even close
Does it work as a dramatic dysfunctional family film: Again, no
Is there anything remotely redeeming contained in this film: Very, very little
A decent concept with a horrible script and poor casting. I'm usually VERY forgiving and can find something to enjoy in just about any film I've seem (look at my voting history), however "Surviving Christmas" has little to almost nothing to offer the viewer.
Even Nicolas Cage, who is arguably not among the premiere actors out there, did a better job of pulling off this type of character (cocky millionaire in a unique situation surrounding by strangers) in "The Family Man" and coping with a dysfunctional family in a "The Weather Man."
The only slightly entertaining pieces in this film were a couple of scenes by Catherine O'Hara and the appearance of the somewhat funny grandfather(s) Affleck's character hires to round out the fake family.
Pass on this film and save yourself two hours of joyless pain.
