Actually, it is from central and southwest Asia. It is FAMOUS in Turkey - not FROM Turkey. The origins have never been officially established.

That wouldnt make the joke less funny. It just adds an ironic layer to it.

(Not that the gag is particularly hilarious either way; I'm just saying that it isnt spoilt by the characters' mistakes).

Ummmm, Baklava is Greek.

Uhm, no it ain't (and I'm Greek!)

It may be most popular now from the Greeks, but truth be told it is not of Grecian origin. It certainly did originate in that general region of the planet, but it is not a Greek original, despite what Gus Portokalos may think (and no amount of Windex can fix that!).
