Now What?

Mark McGwire has finally come clean and admitted to using steroids when he broke the home run record. And Barry Bonds is facing criminal charges and seems certain to be exposed as a cheater when he broke the record.

So what happens now to the record book? Should McGwire and Bonds just be erased? Or should we dust off the asterisks?

And where does Sammy Sosa fit in?

Oh, my God! They're turkeys!

I'm not a Yankees fan by any stretch, but I'm a baseball purist (mostly). I think Maris should still have the record. Ruth next. As the reporter said in the movie, "A season is a season".

IMO, if any player is proven to have used performance-enhancing drugs, their accomplishments should be stricken from record books. McGwire and Sosa should not appear in the annals of baseball history. Bonds should just disappear completely. He's a total a$$. Let's not even talk about HOF honors. Holy crap, they're keeping Pete Rose out for a smaller offense.

The record STILL belongs to Maris in my mind.
