Goof or not

From goofs:

Continuity

Shortly after Elle is kicked out of Professor Stromwell's class, and meets Emmett, she runs into Warner, and immediately after him, Vivian. This would make no sense, as Stromwell's class had just started and Vivian would still be there.

I don't think this is a goof, Elle could have easily walked around campus for an hour or how ever long class is before going to the benches to meet Warner like she planned with him before class.... But I don't know how to edit the goofs, anyone agree with me and know how to edit...

I totally agree. I always figured it was just a case of us needing to suspend disbelief and pretend like enough time had passed for both Warner and Vivian to have gone to an hour long class. Your idea world too though, of wandering around campus for an hour.

do you know how to edit the goofs section?

I think on the goofs page there's a little button near the top of the page about the same level as the word goofs that says edit.

I still think it's a goof. True, she had already planned to meet Warner after class but I don't think she was in class very long before she was kicked out. It's possible she could have walked around for an hour but when she meets Emmett, it looks like she went right to that spot from Stromwell's class huffing and mumbling under breath. Of course, I can still be mad at something like that happening even an hour later and still be ranting about it especially if I've been embarrassed, I hate being embarrassed.

I don't think that's a goof, though I'd have to watch the movie to nail that down.

I think this was discussed in a prior thread, actually. As I recall, it's only a goof if you think the movie moves, scene to scene, in real time - which is obviously not the case.

It's easy to edit goofs. Hit the "Edit" link that up by the heading of the goofs section. Edits don't take effect immediately, but are reviewed by someone first.

Incidentally, discussing here whether to change something on the goofs (or trivia, or FAQ, etc.) page is a good idea if you're not totally certain the change is appropriate.

No, I think it's a goof.

Elle leaves the classroom livid (this is made clear when she is putting her notebook away) and the music over the scene transition corroborates the message that she arrives at the bench immediately after leaving class. Elle's hair looks the same as when she left class, and that would not happen if she had been walking around Harvard's breezy Autumn campus for an hour (which is pretty random anyway. Is Elle the kind of person that would be walking around like a madwoman for an hour?)

However, Stromwell could have dismissed her class early (note from the office alerting her of an emergency, someone got sick, etc.) so it's not entirely impossible for Vivian to have arrived there when she did.

The world looks to Sweden.

Yeah, I think you just assume passage of time. Classes can be over an hour.

Most of the movie would be over if you were to use actual time.

reply

I never thought of it as a goof. We don't know how long Elle was sitting on that bench, fuming about Stromwell's treatment of her in class. It could have been just a few minutes, it could have been nearly the whole class period. All we DO know is that she meets Emmett and then runs into Warner and Vivian arrives once class lets out.
