A question about the mugginf scene

When Alice gets mugged, he kills the mugger very brutally. Don't you think the good old metropolitan police would have something to say about that? He would likely serve some prison time for manslaughter.

Absurd! (although since the entire film is ridiculous, I guess it fits)

reply

Yes that little fact was very conveniently glossed over too I thought. Adam would almost certainly have served some custodial sentence especially considering the amount of witnesses standing around (where did they suddenly all appear from I wonder?!) & thereby able to testify against him.
In English Law you can use REASONABLE force to defend yourself & your property but certainly nothing to THAT extent!
This half crazed guy just didn't seem to know when to stop..........

reply

Did he kill the guy? I thought it was just GBH?

I just loved the fact that he proposed to her while he was covered in blood, with a dying / unconscious mugger at his feet - and she accepts. I loved this magnificently bad film!

reply

To be honest I also thought it was just GBH but the general consensus on these boards appears to be that murder was committed.
Presumably other posters have read Nicci French's novel (I confess that I haven't!)

reply

I wouldn't have thought the mugger would have died from that. Granted, smashing in somebody's head with a phonebox door can never be a gentle process, but he only did once or twice didn't he.

Anyway, I'm still convinced that guy came out of Joe Pesci's vice OK as well.

reply

There was no murder, the robber just got beat up good. And agreed, in today's pussified Britain our hero would get arrestede, whereas the mugger would be decalred a victim.

reply

we dont know that the mugger was killed. i wasnt sure at the end of the scene, although i did think the police would arrest him for beating the mugger up even though the mugger was in the wrong. i dont know alot about britains laws when it comes to criminal and victim. i know here in the states you can beat up your mugger and he can end up suing you. sucks doesnt it

reply

Yes, it was silly how he simply got away with it!
