elephant and this movie

i see some connections between elephant by gus van sant and this movie, especially the second part.
of course, the subject is the same, the killing in a school, but the ending, the abrupt ending seems to be the same kind of technique.
of course again, this movie doesn't reach the grandeur of elephant but is still a good movie.

am i the only one ?

ummmmmmmmmmm first off and foremost, Elephant being superior to Todd Solondz's Storytelling makes me laugh, and second off, to support that comment, you would have to be an idiot to think their was one tangible subject that could be taken from storytelling. Also, what are you talking about, their was no school killing in Storytelling. If your talking about the football player, he died because of fire, he wasn't killed from the hit just turned into a vegetable, and even if you were to consider the hit from the football player a death, how does an accidental hit compare to a planned school shooting. Also many many many directers use abrubt endings, it's not just labled to Gus Van Sant (by the way, great choice of producing Tarnation). Plus the ending of Elephant had the worst acting i think i have ever seen, the girl and the boy begging made it look like a car dealership commercial, the finale of Storytelling left a small crack in the viewer's frown (if the viewer took it the same way i did), I felt that when Paul Giamattis character runs up to Scooby and apologizes about the fire, Scooby believes he is talking about hurting Scooby's image in the film, and Scooby is so gone that he does not even place the death of his family over the fact that this director paraded the fact that his dream in no way seems in reach. In conclusion I am blown away with the fact that you probably think Elephant is a better movie because Storytelling is just so much more intelligent and better directed, I liked Elephant but I found myself not watching during the 12 minute shots of following a jock into the high school, it served no purpose. All that I take from Elephant is its ability to show what's real. ps, take into effect the non-fiction/fiction perspection of Storytelling, you might get it more.

lol, elephant owns this movie by far, and the "killing subject" was the subject that was the idea for the guy's documentary....

I do agree, this movie was put together a bit sloppy, instead of trying to have an entire first story to the movie to fill it up better, it should of just been a 1 HOUR movie to the point. But... That wouldn't sell, people would want a refund fortheir hard earned $10 and $10 for a bucket of popcorn.

What gus should of done was just took the real main story of this movie, and just add more.. certainly there moreee then enough story there for another 20-30 minutes that gets wasted on the first part of the movie which is just a waste of time.

well isn't elephant shorter than Storytelling, i believe by seven minutes, and isn't about 3/4's of that time just shots following the jock from the field into the highschool, or a kid playing the same song while another plays a shooting video game, i mean, i can understand if it goes on for a few moments, but when it's like that for several minutes it just begins to bother me, and please, acting is a very very important element to filmmaking, and the acting in this film was horrific, when i saw that Van Sant had gone through all these actors to pick people to play the parts i was astonished, because in the film they could not act, point it out if it was a use of symbolism or something but still, it made me cringe. Greatest parts of the film were the attempts at long steady cam shots, but, they didn't much compare from those of P.t. anderson... that's my defense, i like that i have a right to it, and its my opinion, which you guys are inclinded to have
