He is tobey's camera man

He's only in it a little bit, and I don't think that he has any lines, but its so AWESOME that he's in it at all. Its such a cool little detail.

reply

I know he has at least one or two lines, when he's trying to get the tape out of the camera and when Scooby asks him where Toby is.
He's got a pretty small part but he's in the background a lot.

"That little punk drove a golf cart through my bar mitzvah. Not only that, he was dressed up like a beaver!"

G*d d*mn!!! That *is* him! How freakin' cool. The thought that it looked like the "American Movie" camera man definitely crossed my mind as I watched, but I didn't think it might actually *be* him. Kudos to Solondz for that bit of casting.

reply

did anyone notice the title of toby's documentary?

it was "American Scooby."

Todd Solondz seemed to be taking a poke at Chris Smith, maybe in fun. All the discussion about Toby treating his subjects with respect and human decency may have been directed at Smith.

reply

EXACTLY! I'm so surprised that no one else has pointed this fact out. The whole deal with Toby and "American Scooby" was that Toby is trying to convince himself that he loves his subjects, when he ultimately exploits them and makes fun of them. It's a direct jab at Chris Smith and I think Solondz must have been horrified when he saw American Movie. I just get that impression from the way we see Scooby react to all the people laughing at him and his family. He was placed below his viewers for entertainment. And this is the "Non-fiction" part of the film.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think Solondz would probably be a fan of American Movie. He might be using some sense of sarcasm. With Solondz you never know.
