Fiction over Non-Fiction

Am I the only one who liked Fiction more than Non-Fiction? I thought it was far more compelling and worked great as a bold little short film.

reply

Well they are both pretty great. But I agree in that Fiction had greater resonance for me than non-fiction.

What sucks is that in the trivia section of IMDB it says there was a third part with James VanderBeek that had to be cut. Who knows what could have been?

reply

Yeah it was apparently him taking it up the kiester.

Nonfiction was more developed and you could actually sympathize with the characters. Fiction was more of traditional Solondz, where you have little sympathy for most of the characters. I enjoyed and admired fiction because it broke down all these rules in narrative and storytelling in general--it questioned racism, and made a pitiful guy with Cerebral Palsy a jerk, but a real person nonetheless. I loved the scene in nonfiction though, when Paul's character calls a girl from high school--it's so pathetic and funny and sad.

reply

I'm glad at least someone agrees with me on the Fiction over Non-Fiction.

reply

i also liked fiction better

reply

I believe Fiction is potentially a stronger movie, but I don't like it as much as Non-Fiction simply because I don't feel that I "get it" as well. I also thought it ended on a very unresolved note so I can't really know what to think yet. I liked its characterization a lot and I have another post on this which I hope someone answers soon.

I also like Fiction better. U R not the only one, Haha :-)

I actually give a 7/10 to Fiction and a 5/10 to Non-Fiction. This is the only Solondz film I haven't enjoyed. But yes, Fiction was way better.

I prefered Fiction and the best sequence in that is when Mr. Scott confronts Marcus about his story.

I LOVED Fiction. Solondz at his best. Bitter, mean, flawed characters.
