Lovers

I've read almost all posts here. But it's funny that I cannot find anyone who thinks like I do.

1. I think it's obvious that Billy is gay and he and Michael are indeed lovers. Billy didn't show any interest in Debbie! Didn't feel anything when Debbie offered to show her vagina. Not even in shock! So calmed. It's obvious that Debbie was obsessed with him! There was something peculiar about Michael and Billy relationship even when they were still kids. I think that Michael has moved to London and they are indeed a couple at the end of the movie. They showed that scene for a purpose, you know?

Please tell me that there's someone who thinks the same.

2. One more think, who did the vocal for Cosmic Dancer? Gloria? I think that wasn't Bolan, right?

Please help, you guys. I'm going nuts.

Have a nice day =)

Thank you for your time ;-)

Just one thing - I don't know if Billy is gay or not, but I always figured that Michael was at the show at the end with someone else, some good-looking black guy, if I remember correctly, who sat next to him. The way the scene was shot, it seemed implied that they were dating.

There's nothing wrong in what you say. I agree this is a cute interpretation of the movie, probably the best one to think of. Still, it's a possibility among others, and it wouldn't make justice to the film to just dismiss all the others; also, this is not its main point.

They implied that Michael had moved to London (Billy's brother not recognizing him) and that he had come to the show with the man sitting next to him as his date or boyfriend. He said he wouldn't miss Billy's performance for the world, implying it was something he had specially planned rather than, "Of course I'm here, I'm his boyfriend!"

The screen was so dark in the audience scene when Billy's dad and brother are sitting next to Michael! I could see that Michael had something on his head that caused the Dad and brother to instantly identify him as gay. What was he wearing? Or was he holding hands with the black guy? Michael looked as beautiful as ever.

I think Michael was wearing a turban. Also, I don't think they were lovers but had and always will be friends. Billy told Michael he wasn't a poof when they were kids and he gave him a kiss but never turned on him. I think Michael supported Billy's dancing before anyone else did and Billy accepted Michael being gay without issue. Not all dancers are gay. Hello Mikhail Baryshnikov.

I know you won't break the rules because there aren't any.

I agree! This a great film with great characters and the story is about the working-class boy from a mining background who was drawn to dancing. It is about all sorts of things, including acceptance. I never, ever, not once got the impression that I was being told one thing by the dialogue, but could write my own script and imagine something else. This thread is the same as another one with dozens of replies....why does this matter in 2013? Because there are gay people who want to put this onto the character, that is why.

Also, as the film tries to demonstrate, not all dancers are gay. Nor do you have to be gay, to appreciate it.

Arthur Murray, Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, Bob Hope, Sammy Davis, Jr., Dick Van Dyke -- lots of dancers were or are straight. Even Jamie Bell!

Exactly!

Agreed, not a film about a boy coming to a growing awareness about his sexuality.🐭

Not every 11 yr old boy want to see a vagina, gay or straight. So an 11 yr old girl who declines to see her friends penis is a lesbian?
