Too much content for one movie

Does anyone else agree this title would be better suited as a mini series for HBO or something else. There are far too many characters and sub plots to fit into one movie. As much as I enjoy the movie, I find it lacking much of what the book offers. If done properly, I think many fans would be drawn and hooked.

Perhaps but I guess you could say that about any book dramatization. I mean HBO aren't going to make a miniseries for every book to screen idea. Also there's no guarantee regarding the success of a series. A lot of production companies like to cash in on a one off movie and have done with it.

I've had a lot of sobering thoughts in my time Del Boy, it's them that started me drinking!

I tackled the book expecting to wade through a hundred pages setting up the socio-political framework, so it was terrific when the action began almost immediately and we were soon at The Château d'If.

I thought the movie following suit, moving along at a cracking pace, and I didn't notice that any of the book's main characters were eliminated or woefully shortchanged, as is so often the case. It's been a long time since I've read it, though--were there significant plot points missing that would enhance or clarify the story if the running time were doubled or tripled?
