So you mean to tell me the prison Edmond and Priest are kept in only have 3 guards, meanwhile (eventually) Edmond and Priest are both skilled in hand to hand combat and they STILL think tunneling for 8 years is a better way of escape.

Why not play dead in one of the rooms, preferable Priest's because Edmond was the younger, and overwhelm the guy that comes with their food. Have him take them to a boat and they are gone.

I know the purpose of him being in prison for so long to fuel his revenge and learn the intricacies of being a educated person, but I just thought the idea that tunneling for that long, especially since the character that came up with the idea was at such an advanced age, seemed stupid.

Just my opinion.

The guy with the food usually doesn't enter the cell, he just puts it through that tiny hole in the door.
When the priest was actually dead the one with the food went to get his mates, all three of them came in.
