He described himself as being psychic in that all he had to do was to be within 10 feet of something dead and he could see their entire life story. So yes - he was a little deranged.
Because of this Cyrus 'befriended' him and was one of the only people who did act pleasently towards him. Of course Cyrus was a ultimate maniplator and only concerned whit his own interests.
Cyrus only used him for his abilities, promising money, but then neglected to pay him in his will.
