after all these years

Still after all these years the series finale still rankles me. Had to be one of the worst series ending episodes ever. Curious can anyone else think of some more lousy endings? and of course Bob Newhart was the best ending ever.

the reimagined BSG.

The end of DS9 wasn't worse? The whole last season of DS9 was much lousier than the last season of Enterprise, but that's just my opinion. The last episode of Lost was flat out terrible(and predictable). Oz and Dexter also has awful endings.

I think that the finale of Enterprise was more hobbled together, but there are many better-produced series finales that were worse in terms of writing.

reply

I think if they had not put Sirtis and Frakes in the episode and left out the holodeck part it could have been a more fitting end and have some final scene with the entire crew would have been nice.

I found nothing wrong with the ending of DS9. Look: One either went along with the entire Bajoran Emissary metaphysical story arc from the first show or one found it objectionable on any one of a number of issues. I thought using characters in Sisko's life pretty distracting and somewhat confusing I think the Prophets or 'worm hole aliens' arc would have worked better with a more ethereal suit of actors whose only roll was Prophets. Using series actors in a white out setting didn't work for me. I think the selected approach was an obvious way to save money...typical of a tv show for a studio to sacrifice quality for profit. Such is life. I didn't let it ruin my impression that DS9 is perhaps the best written, the best acted, and with the best special effects of any Star Trek series.

reply

Keep in mind the series was abruptly cancelled. I suspect that didn't leave them much time for planning an ending.

reply

Okay but having a final scene of all the main characters on the bridge of NX-01 would have been a simple and effective ending.Or have the entire crew getting medals in some giant ceremony?

Another finale that has rankled sci-fi fans was Quantum Leap, which coincidentally, also starred Scott Bakula.

I know i'm in the minority here, but I enjoyed 'The Are the Voyages'. Though, I will admit that they could have not added to the plot of 'Pegasus' and the episode woukd havs been better.

reply

The finale was no worse than anything else the series did. It had like 3 smart episodes throughout its run.

reply

I agree the finale was fine until the Pegasus 'plot' they should have made that part as a final moment of farewell with the NX-01 crew (maybe show them being honoured on Earth or some reunion a couple of years later which shows what has become of them)).But it is certainly not as bad as the TOS finale(which basically wasn't a finale)Turnabout Intruder.Did like the end with the voices of the three Enterprise captains and images of the ships.

Voyager's was worse. Especially the final scene.

reply

No, VOyagers was way beter. Whil I agree VOyager's ending wans't that great it was ll VOyager, not a TNG Holodeck EPisode featurign recreated Janeway and company.

Plus, it had a bter structured beginnign middle and end. Janeways motives madeno sense bu the rest of the lot flowed normally.

SO while its bad, its still better than "These Are The Voyages".

Maybe this series shoudl have ended liek TOS, on a regular EPisode with no axtual finale?

Jesus Christ, Zarove, can't you TYPE?

Why are you here if you haven't seen the movie yet?

reply

Wayward pines.

reply

I just finished watching the whole series, and I must say, that last episode was horrible. From beginning to end, just horrible.
