Newspapers today
I have to say I absolutely enjoyed this movie on it's first airing on HBO (In a crappy Holiday Inn Express with nothing else on) and subsequent viewings with my wife. It is one of the few romcom's I guess either quirky enough for me to enjoy or Charlie Sheen's smirk/Angie Harmon's anything were enough to keep me interested to enjoy it.
Back on point though I chuckled thinking of this the other day with just how god awful the newspaper industry is doing these days. With that Jasco Pharmaceuticals/Simpson Publishing merger not going through (which made no sense to begin with but I digress) there is no way that after that debacle with acquiring Cindy that his company could recover. We are and were (even at the time of filming and release) becoming the digital age with a few holdovers like myself that enjoy reading the paper in the morning before assailing ourselves with the internet...but I am rapidly becoming the sliver minority as less and less are likely to do so in this fast paced world.
Again I sidetracked, sorry...I just imagine Donald Simpson being ousted from his own home similar to the Ryan Turner character after his board informs him that he just doesn't understand the pulse of the generation he has alienated.
Understandably it is a silly and random thought but it does entertain me that this man at his age with his lack of foresight wouldn't have lasted much longer even without his own meddling becoming his undoing.
