Kenny Sia's review
If anyone is interested in reading a hilarious review of this movie by a guy from Sarawak state, Malaysia where the movie is set, click here: http://www.kennysia.com/archives/2008/10/datukship-for-j.php
Here's an excerpt:
"For those who haven't watched the movie, The Sleeping Dictionary has pretty much copy-and-pasted the script from the Disney movie Pocahontas.
In short, British white boy with a stiff upper lip goes deep inside the jungles of mystical Asian country, falls in love with a local native girl, then defies all customs and conventions to be with her.
But that's where the similarities end."
"First of all, the native Iban girl is played by none other than Jessica Alba.
Nevermind the fact that Jessica Alba is the most angmoh[Caucasian]-looking Iban girl in the whole Sarawak. Just accept that JESSICA ALBA = IBAN ok?"
I almost died laughing. You'll have to tell me if it's actually funny to people from other countries, or if Kenny Sia's humor is uniquely Malaysian.
