How would you have sentenced the Broward County Seven?

If you were the judge or on the jury, what sentences would you have passed on the perpetrators/conspirators?

After reviewing the facts of the case and some court documents, I think that I would have upheld the initial convictions - death sentence for Puccio (though the thought of the suffering that this could cause his parents would have probably prevented me from sticking to my guns), life without parole for Kaufman and Semenec, etc.

reply

Marty Puccio- life in prison without the possiblity of parole
Donny S- 30 years
Derrek the Hitman- 30 years
Lisa Connely- 20 years
Derrek the Cousin- 5 years
Heather- 5 years, to be suspended upon the completion of a 1 year program in a lock down psychiatric/substance abuse facility
Ali- something like the above

reply

Marty - Life in prison / No parole
Donny - Life in prison
Derrek the Hitman - Life in prison
Lisa Connely - Life in prison
Derek the Cousin - 1 Year - 3 years probation
Heather - 1 year - 3 years probation
Ali - 1 year - 3 years probation

reply

Martin Puccio - death.
Derek Kaufman - death.
Donald Semenec - death.
Lisa Connelly - life in prison w/o parole.
Alice Willis - seven years in prison.
Derek Dzvirko - one year in prison.
Heather Swallers - one year in prison.

I´d let em all go free. That rapist piece of *beep* had it coming. Although probably should lock at least half of them up just for being extremely retarded. Seriously......how *beep* stupid were these kids?

Whats that on your face!

reply

I would have let them all off without even a mark on their record. Have it like it never happened. I'm a big supporter of Vigilante Justuse. The way the Law rules around this world are they favor the guilty over the innocent. Though I do beleave some cops want to do good but are held down from doing so by the rules they have to follow.

The sentences they received would have been good, if they had actually had to serve the full sentences.

Anybody who thinks that they shouldn't have been punished are complete naive idiots. Bobby may not have been a good person, but none of the others were either. Also, of course the girls are going to say that they were raped when they were being charged with his murder. All of the 'bullying' was most likely (definitely) exaggerated to help their case.

reply

I would basically have two different sentences:

Marty, Donny, Derek (hitman) would get life without parole because they fully participated in the killing. Lisa would also get life because she plotted the whole thing. If she had not, Marty might not have ever done it by himself.

Everyone else (Ali, Heather, Derek the cousin) gets 7 to 10 for being there.

I am suprised that Ali's initial sentence was so harsh. Was it because they claimed she planned it out by luring the victim to the murder location? She really didn't do anything more than Heather did. Or, would Heather have gotten the same thing without a plea?

reply

I wouldve given them a trophy for ridding the planet of such a waste.

I never wanted someone to die in a movie so badly.

reply

Marty - Death, probably lethal Injection.
Donny - Death
Hitman - Death
Lisa - Life, No possibility of parole.
Ali - 40 years
Derek - 30 years
Heather - 30 years

They all knew what was going to happen, they should all be punished.

Never compromise. Not even in the face of Armageddon.

reply

I wouldn't, I'd give them a medal.

Everybody saying that they should be rewarded are extremely naive.

Because you're believing a bunch of shady kids who were on trial for murdering another kid who couldn't defend himself, saying that they were bullied by him when there was no real evidence that he bullied them at all and they were all obviously trying to gain sympathy. I don't think Bobby was a great guy. I think he was your typical douche bag. That doesn't mean that he deserved to die though and the rest of the kids were far from saints.

reply

Yes he was and they should have cut them out of their circle of friends. Problem solved. No permanent damage to anyone.

Did you even watch the movie? I know you didnt read the book.

There is no way any of them deserve Capital Punishment, ridding the world of a raping psycopath shouldnt be. Did they deserve some jail time, of course, vigilante justice is illegal, but sometimes it is also necessary.

I firmly believe if Bobby hadnt been stopped he would have went on to bigger and worse things leaving more victims in his wake. If they hadnt killed Bobby he would be in jail or dead by someone elses hand

Well, it is not difficult to imagine that he would have caused serious harm to more people, I guess it is difficult to imagine how he would not at least have continued on carrying out acts like he did with the retarded man and his groceries from the Publix...one of the most sickening acts described in the book (which Puccio fully participated in) and sure, he definitely deserved about 30 mins of continual roundhouse rights to head just for that deed alone..
One interesting hypothetical, is what might have happened if Puccio did what he should have done years ago, stop whining about his parents moving or any of that, and just totally and decisively blow this guy off..would that have been the end of his own problems with him, or might Kent have come back on him somehow over it, and remained some kind of loose end in Puccio's life?

But, you know, that is not how a justice system can work..somebody cannot just be sanctioned and taken out to head off future stuff that he might do...and even if there is a Star Chamber looking at him, the call decision can hardly be made by a bunch of fried tweaker retards like this bunch..
We know that apparently,as Schutze paints him, this guy was absolutely no loss to humanity, more like a blight on it, and seems to have had no apparent redeeming features even that I can recall coming up.
Maybe who Kent was should somehow go more into sentencing in a case like this..maybe ultimately, it did..most of them are out. Puccio was sentenced to death, but that was commuted not long after..OTOH , 3 men are still in jail maybe till old age over this..

the stupid thing about them, is that this could have been gotten done while dramatically decreasing the chances of them being easily apprehended as they were..as easy as they made it, as retarded as their execution was and even more retarded ball-less behavior in the aftermath, going around telling ALL of these people what they have done, instead of at least a pact to never even DISCUSS the matter again, it is amazing that they were not brought in even faster..

the cops would always have come to Puccio because of his relationship to him..a "you were last known person to see him alive, if something happened to him, good bet you have some clues about what" situation--after doing him, he needed to STFU, no stupid Plan B suggestions to the cops about the bangers got Bobby..none of it.
they needed less people in on it...they needed to get rid of the corpse so it was never found instead of their idiotic disposal of it, and then they needed to SHUT UP, permanent radio silence.

reply

Well, if this is how I, specifically, would have sentenced them. This is based on Bobby Kent being such a scum bag and the fact that it was still murder.

Marty Puccio- 10 years (participating in the murder)
Donny S- 10 years (participating in the murder)
Derrek the Hitman- 10 years (participating in the murder)
Lisa Connely- 10 years (planning the murder)
Derrek the Cousin - 3 years (for helping dump the body)
Heather- Probation/1 year (accessory)
Ali- Probation/1 year (accessory)

reply

Good no execution.

Well I'm not familiar with Florida law, however I am familiar with Illinois law. If this case occurred in Illinois this is how I would sentence the seven.

Life is minimum 25-years in Illinois with the parole board granting or denying parole after the 25-year minimum sentence (parole is usually never granted the first time).

*In Illinois all the others would have to do 85% of their original sentence (for being a violent crime) with the other 15% done on parole. Illinois also grants every inmate an automatic 6 month credit for good time (which can be taken away via behavior).

So assuming Derrek D, Heather and Ali got the minimum of 3-years they would do about 2-years each and one year on parole. Hell, if it wasn't a violent crime they would do one year.

Marty Puccio- 25-years to life
Donny S- 25-years to life
Derrek the Hitman- 25-years to life
Lisa Connely- 25-years to life (conspiracy)
*Derrek the Cousin - 3-7 years (accessory)
*Heather- 3-7 years (accessory)
*Ali- 3-7 years (accessory)

reply

Marty- life in prison. If I agreed with the death penalty I would have given him that simply for being a complete Brutus and stabbing his friend IN THE BACK, but I don't so he can think about his actions in jail.

Donny- life in prison no parole- he didn't even know Bobby and was the one doing most the brutality...if he was able to get out of prison I'm sure he would be a repeat offender if he was able to parole on the loose

Lisa- life in prison, no parole- she planned and came up with the idea, and was completely unbalanced. She should also lose parenting rights for doing drugs pregnant and planning to kill the father of her baby

"Hitman"- life in prison/ 50 years with possibility of parole, same reasons as above but he was just finishing the job the rest of them started so if he turned his life around after sitting in jail for a looooong time I would be ok with him getting out at a late age

Ali- 20-30 years, because she was the one who went to hire the Hitman and led him alone

Derek- 5 years for being an accessory and confessing

Heather- No jail time, but institutionalized!

Is Heather still locked away?
