I've read the book and watched the movie. The childhood Heather and her mother had was completely unimaginable and something of nightmares. I've tried looking up news articals to get more information, but I can't find anything. This leaves me to wonder if it really happened or if Jim Schutze just made it up for the book.
shareNo way he would have made that up...I agree with you that it was horrific and unimaginable...when you read US true crime books , it is not unusual to come across adult murderers who had comparable childhoods..

Then why can't I find any articals on the case? Apparently the murder and trial was on the front page of the Kankakee Daily Journal for three months. I've tried searching and haven't had any luck. That is, unless you could help me find links to articals. Heather's mother had the trail transcript, I wonder if I could find that anywhere.
shareI;m sure it would have had to come up in sentencing...Schutze would never have made it up, I guess it is possible that he himself was given some false or embellished info, but personally I tend to believe the story...
