Based on what we see in this movie, Bobby didn't deserve to die

He was kind of an *beep* but he didn't deserve to die.

Yes, he hit his friend, but it was not like his friend couldn't defend himself, based on what we saw. Marty hit Bobby back afterwards.

As about the rape, I think Bobby didn't realize the girl took it as rape. Think about it: Bobby had a reputation of being into rough sex so Bobby probably thought she was there for that. Of course what he did was wrong and he should have paid more attention, but I don't think he realized how hurt she truly was. It's a bit of a gray area.

Why couldn't they just remove Bobby from their lives? What stopped them? Why didn't the girl just go to the police after the rape? (the others didn't like Bobby so they would have supported her tale about the rape and if they told the police how violent Bobby was, it's more than likely the police would have believed them)

They were stupid when they killed him. Sure Bobby was kind of an *beep* but not irredeemable in my opinion.

read the book. There is more to Bobby than someone who just occasionally hits Marty...yes, Marty could defend himself from him anytime he really wanted to.

But there was more going on here than just that.
Irredeemable?
Probably.
If Marty simply blew Bobby off, we do not know what Bobby's reaction would have been. Being a total fuqqskull , anything might have happened.

reply

THANK YOU. what they do to the retarded man is absolutely immoral and barbaric.

and anyone who says: why not just walk away from him and don't be his friend? what a kindergarten response. you have obviously never been forced to be friends with a frienemy.

Oh God. Fortune vomits on my eiderdown once more.

reply

I'm divided on that. You think it would have been that hard kicking him to the curb?

We will never know what would have clicked in his skull, if Marty just started closing the door in his face.

reply

You cannot be legally forced to be friends with a frenemy. The response is not at all kindergarten, in fact it is much more mature than yours. Adults cut people like Bobby out of their lives.

Bobby was a scumbag, but it does not justify murder. I would prefer it if he had gone to jail for rape, that is what he deserved.

reply

Bobby was a scumbag. Did he deserve to be killed? No. But I don't mourn him.

reply

he probably did deserve it, needed it, even. We, mankind, all needed this to happen, he needed to be flushed from the gene pool or some silly cow would have married him, gotten knocked up, and then what? More fuqqskulls like him probably at large.

It just was not worth unbelievably incompetent kids putting themselves in a prison jackpot to get done.

reply

No he didn't. I actually think he had a bright future ahead of him if he had his priorities straight. But if they hated him that much... JUST CUT TIES!

reply

I'm not going to absolutely rule that out, this world working the way it does, but you get that he was a major fking all-round psychotic which may have interfered with that, right?

reply

Maybe he was, Maybe Not. I still don't think he deserve to get murdered.

reply

People who are in doubt on what he was or let Bobby off lightly, generally, tend to have only seen movie, not read Schuster's book.

When you read the book, you have no sympathy for Bobby nor any illusions about him.
Bobby was a POS, when you read that book. Total *beep* sociopath and psycho. Mean, sadistic even, needy sick fuqq-up.
The fact that he was the only one in school, and getting by in grades on that, and his father tried to push him in, I guess, a positive direction, and also tried to get him away from Puccio and that group, notwithstanding.

That's part of the kick of the whole thing. That Fred, ie Farad, thought Bobby was the best of that feckless degenerate group, rather than probably the worst of them.

reply

Bobby was sadistic and basically psychotic. He wasn't "a good guy" by any means. And just to be clear...Bobby was a rapist. There's no denying that. He was a very creepy dude. What happened to him was fair game all around. Bobby was definitely not a people person, and he was just bound to make enemies at some point.

reply

Its over 23 years and none of them showed remorse or said they are sorry. They were young adults that could've went to an out of state college or move away. Not one of them said go file a complaint or get a restraining order. They didn't live with Bobby Kent. They could've avoided him.

reply

yes, we know they had apparent options.

Puccio explored the 'move to other side of state" option, but his parents shut it down.
We know this was a bad idea, especially as executed, from their group POV. As you say, Puccio by himself, or the whole group, could have just staged an intervention out at the construction site, and told him to FO and stay away from everybody, that he was a sick Haji POS and henceforth persona non gratis.

That was one possible way forward, it may or may not have worked out 100%.Bobby in his rejection anguish and rage , may have pulled some move on Puccio or one of the girls.
But the issue here, is morally, did Bobby get what he deserved?
regardless of whether it was a brilliant idea to actually do him.

reply

Marty did move away, to live with an aunt up north. He didn't stick with it.

reply

I've read the book, and not sure if I can recall that part or not.

Vaguely...where did he go?

and when was that on the timeline?
And was it re Bobby ?
Anyway, obviously the preferred option for him , all else being equal, was to be with his regular family...not outsourced to an aunt.

reply

That's true. They could've just avoided Bobby completely. And plus, one thing I noticed during the entire plotting process, is how Marty surrounded himself with a new group of people, and seemed to be enjoying life a bit more. Even though the group he was associating with, were not exactly positive influences...at least they weren't as mean and sadistic as Bobby. Marty should've just continued hanging out with Lisa, Donny, Ali, Heather, and Derek...and just forget about Bobby. I mean, here's Marty...livin the life in Florida, surfing, smoking weed, drinking, most likely getting laid on a daily basis, has a girlfriend, etc. - and he's gotta go mess up his whole life, with this insane and completely disorganized plan to kill Bobby. But then again, I'm pretty sure Marty had some major hatred for Bobby. He definitely wanted revenge...which I can't really blame him for that. Bobby did some messed up stuff to Marty. But Lisa encouraged Marty's hatred for Bobby, which eventually lead to their murder plans. I know Lisa was Marty's only girlfriend...but she was a really horrible influence. I mean, literally...Lisa was a straight up troublemaker.

reply

yes, she was definitely the driver here to actually do something concrete about Bobby...which is what made her repetitive whiny 'but I didn't do anything" defence all the more stupid..and her family taking that line the more annoying and retarded.

Mouth-wise, she was the original instigator.

She even planned to do him herself with her mom's .25 peashooter...had it aimed at back of his head out at that same site, days b4...then backed down.

Sure, there had to be hate in Puccio too, that he actually did get in and do the main heavy lifting, once Semenec set him off giving Bobby a papercut with his knife.

She was the chubby pretty-ish but not exactly a dreamboat that all the guys are after girl who suddenly had the buff handsome popular B/f and having sex with him, and she perhaps justifiably to some extent sees Bobby as both a threat to her and Puccio, plus perhaps also rightfully, the influence that makes Puccio treat her like a dog, in bursts.

reply

Yes, Bobby was a bully, but that doesn't mean he deserved to die. My heart ached for him when he was being murdered when I hated him earlier in the film. Violence is senseless.

reply

na, I just thought he was a *beep* puss who had terrorised other weaker people and now could not STFU and take his medicine like a man.

reply

Bobby knew what he was doing when he raped that girl. She told him no more than once then choked her. He just didn't care.
