Do you think that the gender roles in this film were tradional or not?

I am doing a research project for my film class in college and I was wondering if I could get some input about this film. I am focusing on gender representations in food films. I am focusing on the traditional or non-traditional roles of women. I just wanted to know if you noticed anything in the film that represented the women in a certain way. Thank you.

It was set in 1959. Germaine Greer had yet to make her mark. The way Serge treated his wife - although very wrong - would have been dismissed as the cross she had to bear.
The women in the hair salon all pricked up their ears at the mention of Vianne's daughter being illegitimate. This is something that probably wouldn't even raise an eye-brow today, but back then women were supposed to keep their knickers on until they got a ring on their fingers.
