Story was stolen from a piece on NPR

Hi. The radio show "This American Life", which airs on NPR, did a piece on 2/11/2000 called "Episode 152: Crush". Act Three of this piece was called "On Seeing The 100% Perfect Girl One April Morning." and talks about exactly what happens in this film. Boy meets girl and they decide to test their destiny about being the perfect one for each other. Coincidence? Or was this script a rip-off of this radio piece?

reply

With the film already in filming by Miramax in July, 2000 it is extremely unlikely the script took shape and was sold to the studio that quickly.

Actually it's entirely probable. While the NPR piece took place in early 2000, it's possible someone got wind of it before it aired on NPR and stole the idea.

I actually thought this movie was a cheap ripoff of the much better movie "Before sunrise".

I think similar stories have been told before.
