Some more problems to chat about

Like quite a few people have stated, I love watching this movie, but I find all sorts of issues with choices they made in the movie Even so, I watch this movie on a regular basis.

I know, suspend belief, but this is just for fun ...

At the beginning, they each grab a glove and immediately head off in opposite directions. Men may shop like that, but women don't.

When the smoke alarm goes off in the apt kitchen, Halley goes to yell at the super. What is she going to yell at him about? The kitchen is full of smoke. The smoke alarm should have gone off, right?!!

Why did Jonathan buy a purple suit? Why didn't he buy a nice gray suit to go with his purple tie? better yet, why didn't the salesman want more money or even clothes for himself!?

If you left a nice leather jacket on a new York bench, what are the chances it would still be there the next evening?

When Jonathan and dean drive up to the sf house, dean jumps out of the car first and runs ahead toward the house. Jonathan takes some extra time in the car to primp in the mirror. Not likely the way it would really go down. Seems to me either Jon would go first or they would go together to the door.

When Sara sees the five dollar bill with jon's number on it, she either takes it with her without making it right with the owner, or she leaves it behind which seems like she would want to keep it. Also, she jumps off the plane ... They won't let you do that willy Billy like that.

At the end, store hours are said to be 10 - 7. It is Christmas time. Surely they stay open past 7 pm.

Ok, enough for now.

Well, those seem like valid points. I did notice some of them, and they should and could have solved these. But I still love the film. :P

About the store hours, where are they displayed? Couldn't they just be regular opening hours?

what bugs me is....

when Lars is reviewing the video for his song...he's asking all these questions..."why does that guy look like he's in pain? where do those guys think I'm going?" etc.... Wasn't he there when they filmed the video?? Shouldn't he have asked those questions then...or had some input as to what could be done?

reply

Lars may have only been present for scenes he was in. He wouldn't know what the finished product would look like until after it was edited. Or he could have been busy with other aspects. I mean, half the time he was with Sara he was on the phone or discussing aspects of his job or tour with various other people.

By the way, it's 'suspend DISbelief'..!

:)

But ya... all good points!!

Tell sanchito that if he knows what is good for him he best go run and hide

"By the way, it's 'suspend DISbelief'..! "

thanks.

The purpose of the smoke alarm scene was to introduce the super, whom we'll see later - his role is to tell Sarah that John is getting married that day.

Leather jacket left on a part bench? Yes, of course. Remember, this is Movie-world, not reality.

reply

ok, then make the smoke alarm go off for no reason. that would be a reason to call the super. if there is smoke and the smoke alarm goes off, that's a sign things are workimg right, right?

Jonathan probably bought the purple suit because the the salesclerk picked it out for him and he doesn't really care about suit or its color, he just wants information. And the salesclerk picked a purple suit to make him look foolish. , perhaps.

About the 5 dollar bill, in my mind, I've always imagined that she doubled back and made amends with the rightful owner when she realizes what she's done. And they don't let people off the plane all willy-nilly, so idk about that one.

About the jacket: I guess it's just like if someone loses their wallet and by some strange and wonderful circumstance someone returns it to you, just the way you left it.

In response to how Sarah shopped for the gloves, I'm a woman and I've shopped like that plenty of times. I've picked up items and just walked off. If I "know" that I'm the only one who wants it or if I'm on the only one ho has my hand on it, why shouldn't I just pick it up and walk away?

I guess some stores feel like 7 o'clock is enough time to get in the store, get what you need and get out. I mean, it's not Target or Wal-Mart or a grocery store.

And I'm watching this movie as I'm writing this and she's going to yell at the Super because (I think) she couldn't get the alarm to go off quickly enough and I suppose that this happens frequently. Plus, she hates the apartment and like someone else said, this scene introduces another character.

"Do you even remember what you came here to find?"
