Picky thought

During Dean's pre-wedding toast he indicated that John met his fiancée towards the end of college. Later on when John is trying to convince Dean to help him find Sara he says about seeing the original godfather (sara) to appreciate the sequel.

Wouldn't his fiancée be the original since he met her first? He also would have been with her several years before he even met Sara. When I think about the fact he was probably with his girlfriend 4 or 5 years before even hitting on Sara it makes the whole thing kind of tacky.

Don't get me wrong I love the movie but John seems to revise his own history to make Sara this original great love when he would have been with Halley before, during and after the whole saga right until the end.

I know I'm reading too much into it but I also go 'huh?' at that scene

He's not talking chronological. He's speaking of his heart. Sara is the benchmark. What I like about this rom-com is love wins. What I don't like is that you can't let go of a lost love. That could keep you from seeing what's right in front of you.
