Halley (massive spoiler alert)

The ending would have been far less happy if the film had shown her in tears, jilted at the aisle, 10 minutes before we see Jon and Sara reunite at the ice rink.

Don't get me wrong, I think most of the plot was extremely clever, but it's harder to feel happy for them knowing how much hurt they'd caused an innocent person...who ironically brought them together when she bought that second hand book.

Of course, they may have caused her even more hurt if the marriage had gone ahead, but she'd probably never know that.

I liked it because I would have rather him end things before getting married. Imagine how much harder it would have been to end a marriage where there would be finances and kids and so much more time and energy invested compared to a relationship.

I've never fooled anyone. I've let people fool themselves.

I agree with MartyS. Having Halley jilted at was my problem with the film. Had she been a 'dingleberry', some one egotistical and unlikable like Sara's partner Sven, it would have been easier. Funny how Sven shows up in New York on the hallway floor of Sara's hotel room and then he disappears after that.

I'm glad they didn't make her unlikeable or anything, it would of been so cliche. However I do feel like a scene with him thanking Halley for the book would of been sweet.
