Why didn't Benedict just have Ocean killed in lockup?

Anybody that's seen Breaking Bad knows it isn't hard to do and even though Benedict didn't have any hard PROOF that Ocean stole from him since when did that stop mobsters from extracting revenge?

We are supposed to believe this guy was badder than bad and didn't just get the one that wronged him but everyone else they knew down to their dog.

But then at the end he turns out to be a big wimp.

True, he couldn't know who the other guys were involved but he had to know Ocean was involved and the fact that his girl went off with him would have pissed him off too but if it was Julia Roberts I'd say Good Riddance to old rubbish and let her leave.

You would think based on the way his character is built up at the beginning of the movie that he'd have both Danny and Tess killed.

But maybe it's because of Tess and/or the amount of money that he chooses to try to get it back rather than kill them.

Because we're suppose to believe that while Benedict is ruthless, he's not going to order a murder unless he has absolute proof that someone stole from him or deceived him in some way. Besides, any self respecting mobster isn't going to kill a guy in his own casino. That's just bad business. That's why so few high ranking mobsters did time for murder - they had them carried out by other people and usually in a place that wasn't connected to them: the person's own home (Bugsy Siegel), in a restaurant (hell, there are plenty that were killed when they went to some meeting a restaurant) or they simply take them out to the desert and off them.

I can't remember the sequel and if Benedict was pissy about losing Tess but I'd venture a guess that he wasn't really upset over her leaving. I don't think he really cared for her deeply.

As an aside, I agree that Julia Roberts was terrible in this movie. She's not ugly but she has zero sex appeal. I saw the movie on TV today and the way she walked was just so lumbering and weird. Like her shoes were ill fitting or she had a bunion or something. I believe two men would be lusting over Angie Dickinson but Julia? Nope.

THANK YOU for writing exactly what I was thinking. I like this movie a lot and own a DVD copy of it. But Roberts is HIDEOUS...how can anyone's nostrils be so big? She isn't pretty, sexy, or alluring. YUK.
