Basher recruitment timeline...

So Danny and Rusty are discussing the availability of Basher and Rusty says there could be an issue. Then they cut to Basher and crew blowing open a safe. As in, this is the issue Rusty is talking about.

But in that timeline, Rusty shows up to "rescue" Basher.

Seems kind of odd to me...

It was a flashback

Then there wouldn't have been an issue with availability. I love the movie, but that line doesn't make sense.

I agree totally. Watched it last night after a long time and it doesn't work out.

I don't think it was a flashback. I think Rusty knew Basher would be get caught doing a heist with a bad crew (Tossers..lol). So Rusty came to rescue.
Remember, Danny was waiting for them in the car?

It says 'Do Not Disturb'!

the only thing that i can think of: the issue with bashers "availibility" was that he was busy doing another job, not getting arrested
it just so happens that basher was busted and danny and rusty happened to be there
maybe?
i've asked myself this question every time i watch it

Yeah - It works if you assume Rusty knew Basher was doing another job, one that Rusty suspected would end badly.

I like the rationale that Rusty knew the crew was bad; that helps it make some sense, at least...

Watched it last night. Rusty says: "There might be a problem with availability."

The word "might" makes it clear Rusty knows Basher is involved in another big job. It also shows he's hedging his bets. If the job works out, Basher is rich and might not want to risk his life ripping off Terry Brnedict. But if it goes bad, he'd be in jail.

When I watch that scene and the subsequent scene when Basher's job goes wrong, I wonder if Danny and Rusty set Basher's crew up (they were caught when the vault alarm, supposed to be shut off, sounded) to get caught to ensure they would have access to Basher's talents for their own gig.
