Billy Tim Denham scene

What is the purpose of the scene with Frank Catton and Billy Tim Denham at the car dealership?

It doesn't seem to advance the story at all, nor does it really give needed background to anything pertinent in the rest of the story.

The scene is mildly amusing but I can't figure out why we needed to see it. Please help.

It shows how they got the vans they used during the fake escape.

Duh.

Frank talked him down by $2,500 per van, so what. Why is that any more important than how they got the chips for vault rack or the duffle bags for the money and hooker brochures etc?

Please somebody explain how the movie would have been even one bit different (other than timewise) if that scene didn't exist.

reply

They did it for 2 reasons.

1) It was a little comedic relief.

2) They hired the best psychics Hollywood has to offer and they told the producers that 11 years later, some guy named twit2 would want to know why they put this scene in the movie. The producers put it in there just to keep you guessing.

The scene is too long and too creepy, but it is a general representation of the background prep work each member does for the operation.

reply

Yes other than comic relief it shows how skilled the Eleven are and how far they will go to get the job done, in this case, manipulating the salesman to save some cash.
