Felt badly for Rosario Dawson's character. She doesn't wind up with anyone after her ex treated her so crappy.
I didn't. Maria's problem is that her failed marriage had understandably made her a bitter woman she didn't want to get played around again so she instead played around with Tommy. Letting him in then pushing him away she was using him in a way because she wasn't sure what she wanted and so was stringing him along. Eventually he got sick of it. Also I don't know if it's intentionally the way the character is written but Maria comes across as a bit of a hard person to be with. She seems very insecure and needy and because of that she lashes out of closes out when she feels someone isn't giving her the love she needs. It explains why she has had the highest number of sexual partners (Griffins number was most likely an exaggeration) but says she has been in a lot of relationships and she married Benjamin when they were both very young. She was still is growing up in a way an. trying to find someone who fits her ideal person who can give her exact,y what she needs but things doesn't work like that relationships require give and take and Maria seems like she was doing a lot more taking than giving.
Sad for Ed Burns' character. He doesn't find out that he has a son/daughter and that Rosario really liked him but was scared of being in a relationship.
I actually think that was the least unkind self centred decision she made. She realised she was the one ruined who whatever relationship they could have had and actually took responsibility to raise the child by herself. Tommy deserved to have a better happier life with someone who treated him better and she gave him that chance.
Seeing the Twin Towers reminded me of another New York, one from another era. Would these characters act the same way after 9.11?
Yeah 9/11 profoundly shook the whole of New York and the US to the core but essentially despute how awful it as New York solely began to rebuild itself and heal itself bit by. It so it would have shocked the characters but if they were still around in New York their personalities would be the same I think just a bit older and wiser. Aside from Griffin I think he'd always be a cheat.

I actually think Annie and Benjamin's relationship was the cutest. The thing with Benjamin is he's clearly a lover not a fighter. He cheated on Maria because they were unhappy, it's different from Griffin who just was unable to commit to anyone. He wanted love in some way, I mean if the fight they had was any indication it was hard to communicate with her not to mention they both admitted they were too young to get married they didn't know what they were doing. They were both miserable. Benjamin at his heart was a nice guy who wanted love and a chance to be happy.
The thing with Annie is Annie is very naive it's why she put up with Griffin for as long as she did. Griffin manipulated her and so did the older guys she'd been with before him. Benjamin was the first person who treated her with respect and dignity. Like an equal not a side piece. I mean she came from a guy who didn't even like to be seen in public with her to a guy who was writing songs seeing her everyday saying how beautiful she was. He showed her she was worth more than what Grffin and the others had made her think she was. Benjamin and her compliment each other well much better than him and Mari did because they are both romantics and want an unconditional love. So I don't think Benjamin would cheat on her.
