I've seen this movie plenty of times and I think it was just Judith's manipulation that made him think he was gay all along. I mean, remember the part when Judith and Wayne got into it and she said "If you're not gay, then have you ever been with a woman?" or something like that. Of course, there was that line when JD said "I thought his ass looked tighter.". It's kind of confusing, if you ask me.

I thought it was pretty obvious that he was gay and he was just pretending to be straight because that is what "society" says a man is supposed to act like or that is what he thought. The fact that he stayed gay and even got married makes it pretty obvious that he was gay and that he had been confused the whole time. A lot of people suppress those feelings until something changes and they realize who they really are. Most liberal screen writers would never hint at the fact that being gay is something a person is conditioned to think.

I think J.D. was confused about his sexuality and Judith helped realize that he was gay.
The first question Judith asked, before any so called "manipulation", was "would you have sex with a man"? Now, if he wasn't gay, he would have answered "no" right away but he had Judith clarify what kind of man, which tells me that J.D. has considered sleeping with a man.
Judith used her "Hannibal Lechter intellect" on him and he went from thinking chicks were stacked to finding the coach hot. His mind was so weak Judith could have turned him gay, then straight, then whatever else she wanted him to be. He was more pliable than Darren.

Just because you're gay, doesn't mean you can't notice when a member of the opposite sex is good-looking. If he had said something like "I want to take her to bed with me," that might have been a goof. If you watch the Ellen DeGeneres Show, she fawns over actors who are in shape all the time.
