Full disclosure, I hated everything about Paul Anka. From the name to the dog itself. Such a dumb, unnecessary plot device. And the dream about Paul Anka meeting Paul Anka -- so annoying. Not to mention that Lauren Graham seemed to have absolutely no rapport with the dog.

I can't believe they introduced a secret kid and a new dog into the show in season 6. Paulanka was cute but so unnecessary especially when Lorelai made everyone give into these odd demands. It's supposed to be cute but it was just annoying. I love my dogs but I don't have people sit around to be entertained while they bark at random foods.

I get why they introduced the dog - it was a replacement child for Lorelei during her estrangement from Rory.
Problem is - she really does feel like a person who would kill a dog out of neglect IRL and it's just not funny with the amount of abused dogs out there. At least she didn't get a puppy, because those can really feel overwhelming in terms of hassle and responsibility (almost like a human baby).
