Is that Rory and Lorelei fat shame like no other throughout the series. It really bugs me because they live the lifestyle of a heavy person. They eat nothing but crap and watch a bunch of TV, etc...
I find it even more hypocritical because of who their friends are. Would Sookie or Miss Patty like what they say? In the revival it was really bad. Because in my head I was kinda always making excuses for the writing in the early oughts, but in 2016 you can't have a fat shaming scene by the pool. They always could have stayed at home and have Luke set up a kiddy pool.

I don't remember them making fat jokes during the series, only during the pool scene in the revival. In the series, Rory compared the ballerina to a hippo in her article. However, that had more to do with the ballerina's performance and the way her costume fit than with her physical appearance (and when we see the ballerina in the cafeteria, she isn't fat). Rory never derided Glenn for his weight, and Lorelai never make jokes about Sookie or Miss Patty, so the series characters didn't fat shame. That nasty pool scene in the revival was just one of a thousand things I hated about the revival.
Glenn was chubby, not fat. Sookie also never was disturbingly fat, and it's not fair to count her pregnancies. There were a couple of instances during the series that they mocked fat people.
Season 2 episode 14 - They were watching the Two Fat Ladies. It was a BBC cooking show. The conversation went something like this (I'm reciting from memory)
- What happened to them? - One of the fat ladies met her maker. - Aw, which one? - The fat one.
and then Rory said something like, "Can't we find some other really fat people to watch?"
So if you really want to get offended by the fat jokes, there's plenty to choose from. They even fat shamed a cat once! Remember Sammy at the B&B Lorelai and Rory stayed at after? The Cheshire cat?
"There's Sammy" "Either that's Sammy or the cat that ate Sammy"
There's also that bit in early s6 where Lorelai accidentally grabs someone else's bags at the store and then makes fun of how big the underpants are. In fact, in that horrid scene, fat shaming is combined with single shaming.
