Confused about Lestat's maker

Per Interview with a Vampire and what I read from a trivia post on IMDB's main page for the movie Lestat was supposedly made by some mad vampire who kidnaped him, turned him and then killed himself immediately after. Hence Lestats comments about not having a choice and knowing nothing about his maker.

Then fast forward to Queen of the Damned where Marius I believe was his maker and they actually had a decent relationship.

So what's the deal here? Can someone explain if I'm just goofed up here or did they just change his origin story?

They changed the story.

Read the books, they are well worth it.

Yes, IwtV was pretty close to the book while QotD was a collaboration of two books, The Vampire Lestat (the second book) and QotD and as Hollywood always does, they changed some of the story. Your question being the main one.

Lestat was created by a Vampire named Magnus in Paris. Ha was an alchemist and had trapped a Vampire. Holding him captive he drank his blood and became a Vampire that way. I believe he killed the Vampire afterwards.

I forget how old he was.

When he turned Lestat he instantly killed himself by jumping into a flaming pyre.

Marius fulfilled the role of the maker for Lestat, but he wasn't actually the one who turned him. As the previous poster said, Lestat was turned into a vampire by an insane vampire in Paris named Magnus. Magnus immediately kills himself by jumping into fire, leaving Lestat with little or no knowledge on his new condition. In The Vampire Lestat, Lestat travels around the world leaving messages for Marius (who he heard about from Armand, who was Marius's fledgling) and eventually Marius meets him and takes him to his home, where he tells him the history of the vampire race.
