Can anyone tell me if the book is suitable for 11-12 year olds? Im asking because the movie had quite a few R rated refrences and a few scenes, though moderate;still unapropriate for 12 year old suffering depression!

ok, this is a very seriuos question. I HAVE NOT READ THIS BOOK yet, and really need some help from people whove read it! Everyone is busy answering other questions, when this is equally as important.

I personally don't think it is suitable for 11-12 year olds. I think it is too strong in language, nudity, and most importantly all the drug references. I don't believe in hiding stuff from kids but this is just not age-appropriate. There is a reason why the movie is rated R...it is for people that I would say about 8th grade and up.

The reason why i think this is because most 12 year olds don't have to deal with the same stuff as kids entering college. I mean yes, they are related (drugs, sex, relationships etc) but its not presented in the same way. The environment and social atmosphere is different. When I was depressed in 5th grade it was more about myself and my feelings and insecurities and less about sex and drugs
