I understand depression fully, since I have been clinically depressed most of my life. And I thought the movie was freaking terrible. TERRIBLE! I think you liked it because you have not read the book If you had read the book the movie would probably infuriate you.

reply

I know, I still haven't read the book. But I am willing to read it if I can find it anywhere. It's hard to find at where I live

It was a total downer for sure but the acting was great.

I thought Anne Heche was a bit miscast though.

The Bell Jar was a GREAT book and Sylvia Plath was a GREAT writer, you can't possibly compare this to The Bell Jar.

Prozac Nation is a terrific book but this is an awful film.

They made Elizabeth look like a spoiled, home wrecking bitch with a clichéd personality problem, not like a scared young girl who had an illness which she couldn't understand.

Oh, jerry, don't let's ask for the moon. We have the stars.

I read the book and watched the movie. I am also a therapist for severely mentally ill population (for over three years). Yes, there is some vaildity to her "feelings", but mostly Elizabeth W. is a spolied, rotten NARCISSTIC brat.

So surely you should know that depression is a very self indulgent illness. You spend a lot of your time just thinking about yourself, and this has obviously been construed as her being self obsessed. She was honest in her book and said some things which showed her in an awful light at times, and I admire her for it.
