The last scene

I cannot remember his exacts words, but the director said something wonderful about the scene at the end where they are both picking up the dropped food. At the moment Baran smiles and puts the burka over her head, the sound you hear is not the sound of the burka going over her head, but the sound of a bird taking flight, as if she were going back to heaven (like an angel). The director's meaning of this was that Baran's job on earth was now over, and she had changed this reckless young man for the better. I thought this was a lovely explanation of the ending.

Sorry, but I could not remember the exact wording, but it went something like that.

Listen to this moment again and it does indeed sound like a bird taking flight.

I'm curious, spope2, where did you get the director comments? My DVD didn't have an audio commentary. Or else it was well hidden.

No two persons ever watch the same movie.

Hello. Yes, my DVD has no commentary also (the US region 1 DVD). I saw the directors comments in some interview somewhere on the internet - Sorry, cannot remember where!) - I watched this movie when it came out and never really thought about the ending too much, until I read his words. But his explanation was included in a printed interview I read online. I thought his words were too important not to re-print, as it says SO MUCH about the last few scenes of the movie.
