Should I watch these in chronoligical order or release order?

I just finished The first one and really enjoyed it and I'm wondering if I should watch the rest in the order of release or their chronological order. Should I watch Better Luck Tomorrow as well? With some franchises I prefer watching in release order and piece things together myself but others feel like they really need to be watched chronologically to get the most out of it.

You're probably over thinking it in this case. There's some sort of continuity between the movies, but it isn't super strong. The second and third movies were made to capitalize on the name, so they were only loose sequels. The fourth through sixth have a couple of thing tying them together, but you can pretty much just watch any one of them and not really miss anything that you couldn't easily figure out. So either way you're fine. Plus, the third one is the only one that's out of order, so the difference won't be very big.

I'd just watch them in release order because the strongest connection between the movies is the characters and jokes.

Yeah I kinda figured. Is it worth watching Better Luck Tomorrow as well?

reply

Yeah, because it's a good movie. It has nothing to do with the F&F franchise, except that two of the main actors starring in it---Sung Kang and Jason Tobin--later wound up in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift---which the director of BLT, Justin Lin, also directed. I actually only started watching the films at part 6, and was impressed by enough to go see F&F 7 at the movies. After that, the films just kept getting bigger and better from there--6 through 9, at least. Fast X was fun, action-packed with intense racing scenes as usual, but at this point, not sure how much more can be squeezed out of these films. The F&F movies really didn't kick off as an actual franchise until the fourth film, but they're still all worth watching in order, or out of order, lol.

1,2,4,5,6,3,7.

Totally worth it. Talk about no major spoilers.

I would watch Furious 7 next right after the original, followed by Fast Five, then 2 Fast 2 Furious, then F9, then Tokyo Drift, the Fate and the Furious, then Fast and Furious and lastly watch Furious 6
