Who won the final race?

I always thought it was a tie but after numerous views that side shot does appear to show that Brian may have just edged Dom before the train comes.

Am I wrong or what?

Based on what I learned from the films that followed, I know that O'Connor did not win this race. I assume that it was either a tie or that Toretto won. That's how I viewed it.

Unless I am missing something with the rest of the films, I don't remember it explicitly mentioning the result of that final race in 1.

But I suppose it can be assumed at the end of Fast Five when Brian wants another shot at Dom that he's never officially beat him, in his mind at least. So I'm probably looking too hard into this. Of course, he wins in 6.

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah that was my interpretation. The result was never mentioned outright, but piecing the clues together as the films progressed told me he didn't win that one - but eventually did in Fast and Furious 6 like you said.

Never mind who won, why did their awesome "10 second cars" take 1.5 minutes to cover the quarter mile?

reply

he had pretty much beat him in the forth movie remember but dom had to cheat.

I did love that scene, brian was pissed.

In my opinion it is the best race of the entire franchise. Brian Tyler provided a great score for that scene, too.

It's also the last real race of the franchise that has notable stakes :(

Trivia:
The first street race scene is supposedly a quarter mile race, taking approximately 10 seconds. However, the race takes almost two minutes of screen time and shows the vehicles driving in excess of 150 mph, faster than even a 1,200 hp Bugatti Veyron can accomplish a 1/4 mile.

Can you fly this plane?
Surely u cant be serious
I am serious, and dont call me Shirley

We can never tell, because when we see them both jump the tracks, it is shown from front-on view, not the side view. I do remember seeing the Charger just in front at that point as Brian needed to use NOS to catch up to him, at which point the Supra was slightly behind. Doms car was closer to the on-coming train though so that little bit of a lead is what he needed to clear it.

Neither died....they both beat the train, so are both winners

I have watched this scene numerous times as well. There is a brief shot from train that shows the front ends of both cars crossing the tracks. In that shot, the Supra is a nose ahead of the Charger. When the shot switches back to the front of the cars coming across the tracks, the Supra touches the ground a moment before the Charger. The outcome of the race was obviously never discussed because of the ensuing crash and Brian giving up his keys to Dom, however I like to think that Brian did win by a smidge (but it doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile. Winning's winning). Brian would have won in FaF if Dom hadn't cheated.
